Great read for any football fan - an amazing inside look at the unsung heroes of the game. The book is a mix of Howard Mudd's career memories mixed in with interviews from some of the best in the game - past and present (Nick Hardwick, Jackie Slater). The book is a mix of technical football insights and player stories. Very enjoyable. It will remind all of us who play fantasy football who we really have to thank for those high scoring quarterbacks and runningbacks. I have always heard from people who really know the game that offensive linemen are the smartest in the game - and this book outlines why this is true. Enjoy!

A very fun read. I was expecting a bit more technical information on offensive line play, but the book was nonetheless a very enjoyable and informative read. The way the author has set up the book, it reads like you are in a room with a bunch of former and current offensive linemen having a discussion that is guided through a wide range of offensive line topics from making the team through to trying to block Bruce Smith. It was really cool to read the thoughts of greats like Randy Cross and Mike Munchak; current stars like Joe Staley and Evan Mathis, and recent standouts like Jeff Saturday. While I think this books mostly would appeal to the more nerdy football fans, I think even casual fans would appreciate it because there are a vast number of funny stories and interesting anecdotes that counterbalance the technical offensive line jargon.

Wow, this book was more than I bargained for, insightful, instructive, and seriously freaking funny. As the just slightly more than casual football fan I found this read fascinating and engrossing. I've never played the game (apart from flag football in college) but this book allowed me to gain a new perspective and understanding on what the offensive line actually does. Not to mention the hilarious stories! I have my own ebook copy, but just gifted two to my Dad and Brother as an early Christmas present! I can't recommend enough!

It's an okay book.If you are looking for stories from former lineman and coaches about offensive line play this is the book for you. It really consists of rough chapters filled with excerpts of stories from former lineman and coaches about experiences they've had and how things have changed over the years. The book also contains a little information on how the line functions, what each position does, why they do things, how they game plan...but again this is less than 20 percent of the book.

I enjoy watching football, but don't really know too much about it. So I learned a lot reading this book, but what I most enjoyed was the stories of the players themselves. What interesting people! The book is well written, telling of the career of Howard Mudd along while weaving in other important o-line players who he played with or coached; and theircontributions to the game. Even if you are just a casual fan you will enjoy this book. A serious fan will love it.

The book was very interesting as it was written from various viewpoints of former NFL Offensive linemen. I did, however, order the book in hopes that Howard Mudd would include more of his teaching techniques in areas such as, trapping, zone blocking both the even and odd fronts, initial steps, the fit into the defender,,finishing the block and blocking at the second level. It was still a good read.

This book probably isn't for everyone. But if you are into the nuts and bolts of how football is played its tremendous. First hand accounts, X and Os. Good stories. Makes you want to suit up.

Great book! Haven't laughed so much since reading "Fatso" by old Art Donovan. This makes it pretty clear how college isn't preparing the NFL O linemen these days. Glad I got this book. Great quotes from some of the best O linemen to ever play in the NFL.

The history of the state of Israel is one of continuous war punctuated by intermittent stretches of peace. The open military conflicts the young nation has experienced have always threatened its continuing existence, but none more so than the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Never before and never since has Israel come closer to annihilation. In The Angel: The Egyptian Spy Who Saved Israel, the Israeli political scientist Uri Bar-Joseph tells the little-known tale of Ashraf Marwan. This son-in-law of President Gamal Abdel Nasser and close adviser to his successor, Anwar Sadat, was also a spy for the Mossad. Marwan’s reports to his handler enabled the Israeli Defense Force to recover from the surprise of the initial Egyptian and Syrian attack and soon turn the tide.A remarkable episode in Israeli historyMarwan’s story is astonishing. As a supremely ambitious young man, he married Nasser’s daughter. Marwan made the mistake of misjudging his father-in-law. When the puritanical president learned that Marwan was using his position to enrich himself, he cast the young man adrift. Bar-Joseph speculates that Marwan’s desire to exert revenge on Nasser led him to offer himself as an informant for the Mossad. The making of an Egyptian spyNasser died in 1970 when Marwan was just 26 years of age. He cleverly maneuvered himself into the good graces of Anwar Sadat by undermining the Nasserite faction during the confusion when the country’s new leadership was in question. In short order, Marwan became Sadat’s personal representative to other Middle Eastern leaders, including King Faisal of Saudi Arabia and President Moammar Gaddhafi of Libya. These connections, and his closeness to Sadat, enabled him to amass a large personal fortune while reporting to the Israelis on a regular basis.Doubts about Marwan’s authenticityMarwan’s reports in the early 1970s frequently reached the desk of Prime Minister Golda Meir. But he was not universally regarded as reliable within the Israeli intelligence community. In fact, for the rest of his life there were those in the Israeli military intelligence leadership who maintained that Marwan was a double agent, placed to mislead Israel at important junctures. It was this skepticism that led several key Israeli leaders to disregard several of Marwan’s early warnings of the impending Egyptian-Syrian attack. Only on the day of the attack itself was his last, desperate message heeded at the highest levels. Though it came only hours before the Egyptians crossed the Suez Canal, the warning time was sufficient for the IDF to avoid catastrophe.Espionage and egotismBar-Joseph explains at great length how distrust of Marwan came to be so widespread not just in the Israeli government and military but among the public as well. The head of military intelligence when the Yom Kippur War broke out had rejected Marwan’s report of the imminent attack—and for decades afterward he insisted in press interviews and in a widely read book that Marwan was a double agent. Bar-Joseph details the evidence refuting the double agent hypothesis and makes clear that Marwan’s chief critic was motivated by a desire to avoid blame for his failure to act on the warnings he received. Little wonder, since his stubborn refusal to accept reality was one of the most shameful acts in Israeli history.About the authorUri Bar-Joseph is an Israeli political scientist who has written the definitive book on the intelligence failures that caused his country to come close to losing the Yom Kippur War. The Angel focuses on the role of the intelligence establishment’s relationship with the spy whose reports were decisive in enabling an Israeli victory.

The above statement is supposedly used by CIA case officers to indicate that their agent networks are often composed of unsavory characters who have betrayed their countries for less than pristine reasons. The exact motives of Egyptian government official Ashraf Marwan for offering his services to Israel are most certainly a mixture of various concerns, but this book maintains that he really liked the money they paid him. He also had every reason to hate his father-in-law Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser who viewed him as a corrupt opportunist. This situation is worth considering since this book is being made into an upcoming spy thriller by Netflix, which, according to Time magazine, portrays Marwan as an idealistic hero. I guess we call that dramatic license. The book itself is an excellent study by an Israeli scholar who has a background in military intelligence. Unfortunately he does not have full access to many relevant files which have not yet been declassified, so this work has to be considered tentative until additional source materials become available. It is still probably the very best book on this subject that we are going to see for quite some time. If you are interested, I have a 1300 word essay on this book coming out in a Forthcoming edition of Parameters: the US Army War College Quarterly.

The Angel: The Egyptian Spy Who Saved Israel....The Angel is a remarkable book -- the result of deep research into one of the most fascinating spy stories ever....reads like a thriller. Bar Joseph story telling ability - extracted from interviews and documents - is outstanding. As someone who actually participated in the Yom Kippur war, I could not stop reading. Many lessons to be learnt from both historical accounts as well as human nature so skilfully analysed and described. This is a must read whether you like history, thrillers, intelligence, spy stories or even if you are looking for a fascinating read while on the beach.

The information in this book is astonishing. In an academic fashion the author has painstakingly footnoted his work to convince the reader of his conclusion that Ashraf Marwan, Nasser's son in law and Sadat's confidant, was a pivotal secret agent for Israel. Overall, the information is fascinating, but I give it only 3 stars because the narrative got bogged down in endless repetition in support of the author’s assertions. I made it through the book motivated to discover Marwan’s fate, but I would have enjoyed the book more had it been more concise. Anyone interested in 20th century middle eastern history and Arab-Israeli relations will want to read this book.

The book is very readable. Aside from a few digressions, the material seems factual. One aspect of espionage is the betrayal for strange, personal reasons. Readers understand greed traitors, or men driven by ideology. But the hardest to understand, and sometimes the most effective, moles are people who follow their own unique, intensely personal, and intensely warped logic. The Angel is not the sole attraction of the text. The writer introduces the politics of Egypt. That world is neither idealistic, nor is it a "film noir" world. Western readers expect individual desires for power or greed to influence policy. But in much of the world, the individual is less important than family, rank and contacts. The descriptions of Egypt under Nassar and Sadat are fascinating.

I was utterly fascinated and amazed at this story and had to keep pinching myself to confirm that it was, indeed, true!!! The "angel" who is depicted here was responsible for saving Israel many times and surely deserves credit for it; what was sad to report was the utter chaos in Israel surrounding the "angel's" actions, which almost resulted in disaster!!! Very well-written and I understand that a movie is in the process of being made, which I would love to see.

#125,294 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I am always leery of buying yet another golf instruction book, and I have been researching books from Vision 54 for some time. When I saw that they released BE A PLAYER, it looked like it was the way to go, and I purchased the Kindle version. Their concepts may not be for everyone, but they were right on target for me.This book does not concern itself with swing fundamentals, it is about the mental side of the game. You will learn about issues that prevent you from playing up to your potential on the golf course. You will learn more about yourself on the course, why you play well and why you do not play well. There are many subtle things that affect you while you are playing and you were most likely unaware of them, or how they change how you play.Once you are aware of the aspects they discuss you can monitor yourself during a round and make adjustments between rounds and even during rounds.

Haven't you wondered why great golfers come in all shapes and sizes? By far, Pia and Lynn understand it is not about the technical but the mental. You can take lessons to perfect your ball strike and be respectable BUT if you want to start scoring and really having fun playing golf then read the book. Everyone is different and to play well consistently you need to know how to motivate and control YOU. You need to know what works best for you and only you from the moment you step up to the tee to when you are stuck still playing five hours later. The better you know yourself the better you play. Not a bad premise for life either! Buy the book and you won't be disappointed.

I have read all of pia and lynn's books and they are all phenomenal, and each one of them take your golf game to a new level. Their most recent book, Be A player continues to take you even further into the internal world of golf, which addresses the saying that golf is 90% mental. While traditional golf instruction continues to only focus on external side of golf; technique, technology and physical fitness. This book will help anyone, at any level of golf. Be prepared to be shocked as the very 1st round after reading this book I got my 1st hole in one. Thank you Los and Lynn!!

The best thing you can read to improve and enjoy the game a great deal more. I read two of her previous books and thought they were good. This new one takes her previous thoughts several steps further. One of the things she talks about, which I agree with, is what a waste of time for amateurs to spend endless hours pounding balls on the range. I agree the best "training" is on the course. And, how counterproductive quick fix lessons can be. Pia's ideas on grip pressure, tempo and tension were just a few of the things I took away from her book.

As a researcher and teacher of topics on human performance and the mind, I have a pretty high bar for the books I read, enjoy, and then actually write a review for...I've read a lot of golf books and other books on pairing top technical skills (e.g. swing) with human performance skills (e.g. focus), and I was deeply impressed by this book. There are many books that have nice sounding platitudes on the "mental side" of the game, but this book expands your thinking on what that really means, and gives you step-by-step ways to actually do it. I don't even play golf, but I got a lot from this book!

I've read a lot of golf books and taken several weekend certification classes for a wide range of golf related topics. This book is far and away the best if you want to understand your golf game and what it takes to improve, and has nothing to do with technique.

I've read:- Rotella's Golf is not a Game of Perfect- Gio Valiente's Fearless Golf- Zen Golf- Michael Murphy's Golf in the KingdomAnd this book is the better than all of them combined. It not only tells you how you should think (on the course and practice tee) to play your best golf, it gives you practical questions to ask yourself and exercises to implement the methodologies.I especially loved the neurological, psychological, and behavioral research the author references: from Daniel Kannemann to Amy Cuddy to Anders Eriksson (respectively: Nobel Laureate of Thinking Fast and Slow fame, Harvard Prof of posture-mind effect, FSU Psych Prof of 10,000 hours mastery fame) and others.I will use these lessons in my golf game as well as my business life.

I have been struggling with how to get out of my head while playing golf and knowing that I have the ability to play better than I currently am playing. This book is right on the mark to help me deal with the human skills and not the technical swing skills we all tend to focus on. Easy read but packed with so much information. Thanks Pia and Lynn.
