We used this book to navigate around 1,100 miles of Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. Pretty informative, sysinct and to the point. Also included secret hideaway beaches/caves. This book and Google Navigate were our go-to’s.

I like this collection, I'm brazilian and from the same city that the little boy in the book and our life weren't this way. I found that the writer describes a child from a favela in Rio de Janeiro, with a carnival reference from Rio de Janeiro and not from Recife. It's like describing someone from the Texas, Utah, California, an exemple and saying he's a typical New Yorker, or oposite. :/

This leveled reader presents a wonderful introduction to Brazil. Readers meet Marco who lives in Brazil. The book shows a map with Brazil's location within South America and then gives details about the natural wonders of the country. The rain forest is described including the tribes and animals that live there and the problems created by urbanization. The important rules to protect the rain forest are emphasized.The book also covers the coasts, cities, and people that make up Brazil. One aspect that children will enjoy is that Marco explains much about Brazil's food, history, sports, and culture through a typical day at school and then later when he returns home. Brazilian history is handled with great sensitivity regarding native Brazilians and the issue of slavery in a way that children in primary grades will understand. Living in Brazil concludes with important facts about the country.

This book is a nice intro to Brazil for people familiar with Brazilian culture who want to introduce it to their kids. My daughter is 3.5 years old and she rather likes the book. It's not perfect (for example, most Brazilians don't eat cheese bread for breakfast). Also, I think the whole thing about how the kid's mom works the night shift at the hospital and therefore is asleep during the day is totally lost on my daughter. The perennial work life balance seems like a detail of interest to adults but not to kids. But, okay, those criticisms given, it's overall a reasonable introduction to some Brazilian history and customs.

I am very impressed! I was raised in Brazil and bought this book for my american children. We all loved it. Very well thought and legit. I got to explain to my children some things that are different in Brazil like “brazilians eat dinner super late” and they had a kick when they recognized some things/actions that we do as a family because we are a multicultural family. They asked me to buy all the others Living in.... books so they can learn about other countries.

Very well written and a true gem in kids books about Brazil.As a Brazilian native, this is a nice way to teach your own kids and a nice token for my kid's friends about my country. I wish I had found this book for my son's birthday so I could give them away in his favor bags. Looking forward to the following books about China and Mexico. I'm definitely purchasing the "Living in... Italy" as well.I'm sure the author researched quite well (and maybe had some consulting help) to write so nicely this little book.

I purchased this book to help my 7 year old son write a heritage report and it was exactly what he needed! A little boy named Marco gives all kinds of useful information and explains it in a way that is very easy for children to understand. Brazil's history, geography, carnival, soccer, schooling, it talks about it all and didn't even bother trying to look elsewhere to help gather information. Wonderful book!!

My 7 and 6 yr olds got to visit Brazil for 3 weeks this summer so we got this book to help prep them for their experience. We all like it and read and reread it many times. Look forward to purchasing more books in this series about different countries!

The author's 1-STARRT tool is brilliant! I was disappointed that it wasn't introduced in earlier chapters. Most of this book is basic music theory with audio examples from musical theatre peppered throughout. Excellent BGP reference; despite being from Cisco Press, only at the very last two chapters there are direct references to Cisco Products.

Complete book for the understanding how the Internet routing is done. In this book, the author makes a difficult subject easy to understand. The diagrams and solutions at the end of the book are extremely helpful in solving real-world problems.

Still the authoritative book on BGP. Best book to learn BGP and study for the CCIE LAB Exam. Waiting for the 3rd edition.

Good Read

After a brief review of the history and evolution of the Internet, the author motivates the rest of the book by giving a set of questions to be asked by an organization who intends to connect to the Internet. Since at this time all businesses it seems want to do this, the answering of these questions will give them more helpful information on just what must be considered when choosing an ISP. The details of the routing architecture are of course the main emphasis in the book. Some of the more important topics addressed in the book are: 1. IP subnetting and variable-length subnet masks and why they are useful. 2. The different strategies used to handle IP address space depletion, such as creative IP address allocation, classless interdomain routing (CIDR), private IP addressing, and the new IP version 6. In the discussion on CIDR, the author asserts the advantages of using aggregation, in that an Internet Service Provider can advertise one IP network rather than several individual advertisements. This, he says, results in more efficient routing strategies and propgation along with making the route advertisements more stable. The degree of the resulting efficiency is not really quantified by the author however. It would have been interesting to have real-life examples of the resulting gains, or examples taken from simulation modeling. Although such data might seem unnecessary now, since CIDR was proposed as a fix to the depletion problem, it would still be interesting to be able to understand in more detail the advantages of employing CIDR, and with comparing it the planned deployment of IPv6. 3. The discussion of distance vector routing and link-state routing and the advantages and disadvantages between the two. The reader interested in a more rigorous and quantitative comparision between the two routing protocols will not find it here, but such a comparison can be done via simulation modeling. 4. The representation of the BGP neighbor negotiation via a finite state machine. 5. The discussion of the TCP MD5 Signature Option, and its role in protecting BGP from spoofed TCP segments and TCP resets. 6. The building of peer sessions using BGP and how to implement it "internally" in an 'autonomous system.' Peer connections between routers in different autonomous systems are then "external" implementations of BGP. The autonomous systems as explained by the author can be used for example by two users who desire to have a link between them in case of a failure of their ISP. 7. The discussion on route instability and how to control it using aggregation, route dampening, and static route injection. The author spends an entire chapter in fact on the design of stable internets, although the discussion is brief and purely descriptive. The route dampening mechanism is discussed as a tool for controlling route instability. This involves a strategy for penalizing unstable routes and is implemented on CISCO routers (the author gives the commands for doing so explicitly). Although the author does not discuss any, modeling and empirical studies have indicated that a cavalier use of route dampening can be deleterious to a network. For example, it was shown early on in the use of BGP that a single route withdrawal may cause other routers to explore a sequence of alternative paths before deciding that the destination is unreachable. Some researchers have shown that this in turn causes "secondary flaps" which can suppress the threshold of the route flap damping algorithm, and resulting in delayed convergence of the route.
