Ginny Hill is a visiting fellow in the Middle East Centre at the LSE who has covered Yemen for more than a decade as a journalist and policy advisor. This book is, to quote the metaphor of a famous author, “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”. The book is really a composite of old archival declassified OSS and CIA notes from back in the day. It is an unending list of names and players; a Rogue’s Gallery of who’s who in the world of gun runners, warlords, and drug smugglers. Ms. Hill inundates her reader with copious amounts of detail yet fails to offer any significant insight or provide any real illumination regarding first causes with respect to the present war in Yemen. Ms. Hill has assembled an impressive edifice of facts but without exegesis, interpretation, or enlightenment. This book is not the work of a lone intrepid journalist who sacrificed her personal well-being, safety and comfort to tell the world about the sufferings of the Yemeni people. Nor is it the work of someone risking her life to obtain that information. Instead, one gets the impression from reading the book that the only real labor involved in her journalistic endeavors was in the collection and collating of old OSS, CIA, and State Department notes (all probably done in an air-conditioned apartment). She seems to have had plenty of time, while writing her book, to attend well-funded soirees and swank elegant dinner parties that were attended by diplomats, journalists, and political elites. It is also very clear from her writings that she had constant 24/7 round the clock security protection. As said, this is not the work of a journalistic heroine putting it all on the line. The work is very dry and analytical with a few personal anecdotal stories thrown in to keep the reader from falling asleep. It would be interesting to speculate and conjecture as to whether or not Ms. Hill may have been directly or indirectly involved in the fomenting of the Arab Spring Revolution. “Yemen Endures” is, like the Arabian Desert, dry, barren and lifeless. There is no lifeblood in it. In the end it leads the reader out into the desert wastelands where there is no water; only the dry swirling Sirocco winds mocking the reader for having made the journey.

The first 2/3 of the book is good with plenty of interviews. Once the author left the country, the information and story of Yemen stopped abruptly and feels like composed by other reporter's writing. Quite confusing because there is no name list, you are always lost in those hundreds of Arab names. The author never writes clearly during which year the event happened, it's always "last February"," two weeks later".

The manuscript for this books seems to have been handed straight to Ms Hill from the CIA.Yeah, ok, sure, BL was involved with 911.Whatever.Incoherent rambling narrative, obvious intelligence propaganda.Don't bother.

I purchased this book from England where it was released a few months earlier than in the US. The book is a blend of historical account, and journalist essay, covering the period from 1960 until early 2016. It gives a vivid depiction of the complex interwoven elements that form the remarkable Yemeni political landscape. It has very detailed references and notes, and an excellent index. The tone is serious, detailed, factual, and perceptive. An outstanding work, it gives a very informative background for the tragic 2017 developments in Yemen.

Great tool for my kids. Very important for safety, and also useful basic skills for interpersonal relationships and managing one's own emotions (e.g. de-escalation instead of lashing out). I wish more kids had these books to better learn this stuff from an early age.

Drawings are black and white so thought my son wouldn’t like it. But once we started reading he was completely engaged. Easy to read, fun to act out, and really help describe how to handle most challenges that I didn’t know how to talk about. So helpful!

I liked the messages, but the artwork was not my favorite. Probably won't read it again just for that.

Great resource! I've found these safety comics very helpful, because it can be difficult to remember so many great safety skills, scenarios and how to coach and practice with my kids, especially when they're first introduced. These books remind me of the safety skills, provide scenarios that I can then expand on or add to depending on what safety challenges my kids have, while engaging them and providing practice so that they're more likely to use their power in the safety situations. In addition, they provide the room for great conversation starters in a non-obtrusive, natural way. I've found that this is not just a book to read, this is a book to discuss and practice with to really get it's full benefit.

I especially like the additional commentary by Patton. This is a good edition and is well translated. The commentary helps to tease out some of the subtleties of Kant's work on a difficult subject of morality.

It's been 3 months since I had to read this book for a class, and I found myself referencing it just last night! Kant is remarkable and this book equips one with the tools to answer fundamental questions about morals.As for the translation, I can't say that I have anything with which it may be compared. I neither speak German nor have I read an alternative translation per sé. I can only say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and that it has impacted my mentality to a profound degree.

Wrong word choice? "On the other band" instead of hand.And this a few paragraphs later, "...tastes of the public, are wont to blend"It is aggravating! Same on me for not researching which publisher to buy from. I do not recommend this version.

E-book and paperback are two different editions. Get the paperback if you need this for an Ethics class. The e-book will have you very confuse when you get assigned a chapter to read because the e-book is divided into 3 sections and the text is different than the paperback.

But, as I found out, this book has been translated smoothly -- although I cannot compare it with the German version.What I like about Mary Gregor's translation, is her use of footnotes. She clearly defines Latin phrases and the layered meanings of German words whose depth and meaning would be in too hasty of a translation.Also, she introduces Kant's main ideas very well; and by doing so, expands and clarifies the ideas he presents in his treatise. The footnotes are not excessive; Gregor seems to have balanced them well. The presentation of the footnotes, typography, and the library grade (acid free) paper make this book a keeper.

Some of the logic presented is very nice. Some statements are profound. It is a classic.

Once I heard this book would be released here in the states I was happy yet a bit skeptical, the reason being that I wondered if Junji still "had" it. I can say that he still has a twisted mind of sorts that'll leave you satisfied. When I received the manga through the mail the first thing you notice is well, Junji's signature artwork which stands out by the cover being embossed. I have to say that it makes it stand out and look and feel really nice.The manga revolves around a pair of siblings who go from town to town causing mayhem with each chapter getting darker than the previous one. Surprisingly Junji wrote the story with a meaningful message attached to it which I agreed to. If you're looking to get more horror manga make sure to add this one to your collection for it'll make a fine addition to it.

Great, creepy, gruesom collection of short stories about these awful, awful siblings.I love Junji Ito's work and love seeing more of his stuff coming state-side.

In my opinion, I liked this book a lot and I found it to be interesting. The only problem I had was the characters and how one-dimensional they were, but then again it is only one book and that makes it hard to develop characters. This book isn't as twisted as Uzumaki and Tomie, but still very interesting to read. I am very truly sorry if this was a bad review of the book.

I love Ito's art but this collection of stories fell flat for me. I like the mostly connecting story but only one story gave me the creeps. Some interesting ideas though but just not what I expected. Still happy to have it in my Ito collection though.

I love just about anything by Junji Ito and this was up to par. It's a quick read but holds a lot of the same tropes you see along his work. If you're a fan and frequently buy manga, it's worth adding to your collection!

Jungi Ito is a huge talent. This book preys on cultural stigmas in Japan, so some from the states may not understand it, but if you love Ito's brand of horror, you will love this. Check out the short story at the end...my favorite part!

Beautifully packaged and bound, the 2 characters on the cover are embossed and all the melted people are glossy while the rest is matte. The storyline is very good and follows these 2 characters. This is definitely a must have if you're a fan of the horror genre and especially if you're a fan of Junji Ito. It isn't his best work but it is phenomenal!I will be doing a full video review of this and will update my review here when it's finished!

I bought Gyo and Dissolving classroom together , and I enjoyed Dissolving classroom MUCH more. Although Gyo was great I loved the satanic worshiping aspect of D.C. All time favorite Junji Ito is still the Tomie Mangas. Waiting for my Uzumaki book to arrive.

Clockwork Princess is the stunning conclusion to Cassandra Clare’s the Infernal Devices trilogy. The pacing of the third book is much brisker than its predecessor and immediately drags you into the plot. There are also significantly more scenes with action in them, which help to break up the scenes that steadily move the story along. As with the previous books, the story is very character-driven and continues to bring further depth to each character’s personality.Will continues to be my favourite focus of any scene with his witty comments and sense of humour. It was nice to see him play off his sister at times, because normally only Tessa can manage Will. Although they have been apart for many years they still have a wonderfully authentic relationship, like how easily she is able to get under his skin. Will and Jem’s parabatai relationship, as it was in the previous books, is so real that you can easily imagine the love they have for one another, the pain each feels when the other is hurt, and how they would do anything for each other.It was nice to see the continued development of characters that we’ve grown to love, as well as the new faces that have joined the familiar at the Institute. The number of important characters does not ever feel overwhelming or confusing, as each has been given the time to become established and grow in the world that Cassandra Clare has created. I love each and every one of the characters because they are not only true but integral to the story as a whole.Despite having read this entire series before and knowing what will happen – it is still so brilliantly written that it elicits myriad emotions throughout. Each character feels real and their lives affect your own. A tear slips down my face as one character experiences unbearable pain, while another comes at the thought of losing a character I’ve grown to love so much. A grin overtakes my face in light of the overwhelmingly happy news. The books that I have grown to love are the ones that speak to you, change you, and will forever stay with you.Clockwork Princess is quite possibly the best series finale that I have read and certainly the best final book in a trilogy. Despite the book causing me to cry, multiple times, I never felt dissatisfied with the conclusion. The story comes to a climactic end, then Cassandra Clare takes the final chapter to pull everything together and the epilogue to make me cry again. I loved re-reading this series so much and hope that you are inspired to read it as well.

I love the book series, I've read them twice, working on a third time. The reason why I bought the soft cover set is because I wanted the binding art. The covers have a matte feel to them, they are not glossy and the print quality is nice. I also have the mortal instruments set, and they are glossy, and compared to the mortal instruments set, the infernal devices books are taller. Overall the quality is better compared to tmi. Also, it comes in a box, unlike the other series.

My thoughts are really all over the map as I have just finished this book and though it took me quite a long time to finish it, simply because I couldn't get my head back in the game of reading, it turned out to really envelope me emotionally. I literally cried through chapter 23 and the Epilogue. I also found it to be quite satisfying as the ending of the trilogy. Bittersweet feelings for sure as with any trilogy that the story is "over". As I try to keep my reviews spoiler free, let me just say I was pleasantly surprised by my overall feeling of the book upon completion. In the beginning having such a hard time getting into the book I thought "oh boy, I have to read nearly 600 pages on something I'm just viewing as average..." However that really was my own attitude and not in any way an indication of the book itself because after about 100 pages (which is only through chapter 5 mind you) I was hooked. I was down for about a month, maybe more, in a reading slump and the timing just wasn't right for me to pick this one up at the start but I'm super glad I came back to it and finished it. I would have missed out greatly had I not read the ending to a great story. The conclusion left me very satisfied.Now to the good stuff...and be prepared for quotes because the entire book had a lot of great ones that I absolutely must add in my review.Aw...Jem...and Will....these 2 guys have got to be at the top of my favorite male leads in a book list. I can't pick just one as a favorite, though I know many are huge fans of Will, but I can't pick between them (much like Tessa). From their incredibly loyal and deeply connected friendship to their undying love of the same woman, they are what puts the "awe" in "awesome". The relationship between these guys is more than just friendship and more than brotherhood. Honestly I'm not so sure we have any relationship in life that even comes close to the parabatai relationship. At its core is the principal of undying love and sacrifice and devotion."Jem has always given me exactly what I needed in the way I needed it, even when I did not know myself what I required." (Will)Tessa loves Jem and at the end of book 2, Clockwork Prince, she has agreed to marry him. It's not pity that she feels for him, though he is dying, but it's admiration mixed with love. But her heart is torn because she also deeply loves Will. Is it possible to have this kind of deep love for two people at the same time though? That is a question she battles with."A heart divided against itself cannot stand, as they say. You love them both, and it tears you apart." (Magnus)"It was a near incomprehensible tangle, the three of them, but there was one certainty, and that was that there was no lack of love between them."There are many stories being told in this one book, well this whole trilogy really. Aside from the main characters Jem, Will and Tessa, this book also wraps up nicely the stories of Gabriel, Gideon, Cecily, Sophie, Charlotte and Henry. All of the side cast characters are ones that the reader grows attached to through the trilogy, of which I was quite fond of all of them. I would have been disappointed had their story lines not had some closure as well.At the heart this is a story of love. Love of fellow shadowhunters, love of friendship, love of brotherhood, love of soul mates, love of family.
