Remarkable stories! Every Christian should read it.

I’ve always enjoyed tales of Christian history. I find myself edified by hearing the discussions over doctrine, the stories of the spread of the gospel and the stories of those who have suffered or died in Christ’s name. So, when I received the opportunity to review Plough Publishing House’s new book, Bearing Witness: Stories of Martyrdom and Costly Discipleship, I was sure that it would be a book that I would enjoy reading.I was not to be disappointed. Bearing Witness is a book that traces four periods of Christian history with martyr stories and stories of those who were persecuted for their religious beliefs. Although I wouldn’t classify all the martyrs covered as Anabaptists, the book does focus on martyrs of the Anabaptist tradition.The book is separated into four sections. The first covers early Christians such as Stephen, Polykarp and Perpetua. The second section deals with martyrs of the reformation such as William Tyndale, Jakob and Katharina Hutter and Dirk Williams. The third section is the early modern witness, including martyrs and persecuted Christians such as Ahn Ei Sook, Gnadenhutten, and Veronica Lohans. The final section covers such people as Clarence Jordan, the Wurmbrands and Sarah Corson. Not all of the people are equally famous, but what is equal is their passion for Christ and willingness to give all in his service.The stories were not equal in length. Some stories are only a couple of pages, and others are quite lengthy. Some stories are also more engaging than others for me. There were a couple of times with the conscientious objectors that were persecuted where I was literally saying, “Come on, guys. Just go work on the farm and grow the plants or be part of the medical unit.” However, an important cornerstone for much of the Anabaptist movement is nonresistance and pacifism. As such, doing that would have violated their consciences and been a sin for them. However, because I don’t share that conviction, it was so frustrating, even for me as a Christian, to see them suffer what I would feel was needless persecution.The chapter at the end on Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria and their persecution by Boko Haram discusses how many martyrs there are as a result of the Anabaptist pursuit of nonviolence. Many of us Americans think of martyrs as a thing of the past or as an isolated incident, and yet the evidence of this book and others like it prove that danger in Christian service is a constant danger for many Christians around the world.This is a book best read over time. I think that one or two of the stories a day would be a great balance from this book so that you have time to digest and think about what you’ve been reading. As a homeschool mom, I intend to put this book on my shelf to share with my children in their high school years as part of their education in church history. This is one book that will challenge all your notions of what it really means to be a Christian. You may not agree with the moral teaching imbedded in each of the stories LeBlanc selected, but they will captivate your mind and move you to earnestly think about what being a Christian means personally to you.From the very brief "Biographical Sketch," we see that Tolstoy was apparently a tragic figure who, in spite of much success, was "plagued with suicidal thoughts" until he took a "look beyond his own circle" and "noticed that the peasants, despite their poverty, had an instinctive sense of life's purpose. Their faith in God and simple labor propelled them to live. And then it dawned on him: he too only lived at those times he believed in God. It was a decisive conversion experience, after which never left him" (p.xiii-xiv).However, he left the Church when it ordered praying for the utter destruction of Russia's enemies "with sword and bombshell." Tolstoy outspoken pacifism influenced men like Gandhi, Shaw, MLK, Jr. He made sacrifices giving up his wealth, profits, property, and even breaking with his family that would throw him and his wife into constant battle. He renounced all of his publication rights and signed all his property to wife and children.The writing selected reveal a man who saw the sharp inconsistency of the teachings of Christ and the way Christians believed and lived. It seems many of the stories are of persons seeking for a purposeful and happy life but failing until they come to realize that "To know God and to live come to one and the same thing. God is life" (p.43).This is not a book for the Christian who is too lazy to seek for why God put him where he is, or for one too enamored with his own self and possessions to care for others, too attached to his own theologically moral and ethical, and, yes, even his political presuppositions...but, wait! No, maybe that is just the person who should read this book...the lazy, the self-absorbed, the purposeless, the know-it-all, the seeker.I believe these selections of Tolstoy by LeBlanc will keep you thinking and thinking, struggling to come to some satisfying conclusion on just want it means for you to to live the genuine Christian life and how much are you willing to pay to live it.

This book has been more help than I can ever state. From working with teens to my own family, I have utilized the advice more times than I can mention. Recently at the passing of a close family member, the immediate family sat around the table reading the section on normal symptoms of grief and stated which ways EACH PERSON thought they were grieving. They then understood how to better respond to one another's individual methods of grieving. WONDERFUL book --highest praise!

This book helped me sort out some of what was reality or panic in the dimness of my darkest hours.

I just finished this book. It's a good read. If you are a Stephen Minister it is well worth reading.

I have a heart for people and selected this book based on this and my education in Social Work. I wasn't prepared for the depth of this book, it is a heavy read and does take some time to work through. While it is done in an easy style it can be hard to digest everything in one reading. I would suggest if you are reading this to minister to others that you read through it once and then as each crisis arises then flip to the section you need. It would be impossible to remember all the great and relevant information by reading it only one time.There are many sections, such as, illness and hospital visitation, crisis, aging, death (within death it includes suicide, SIDS, miscarriage, infertility, violent death, among others), grief, troubled marriages and divorce, addiction (gaming, pornography, chemical addictions, eating, etc), domestic violence, rape, and most important forgiveness. There is also an additional section on resources so that additional books with more information on what is covered in Helping Those Who Hurt can be obtained.I would say this book would be great for someone who has a total heart for helping those in crisis whether on a full time basis or even just for the friend or family member who wants to help out one another. Anyone within a pastoral setting would also benefit from this, I have seen pastors try to help but sometimes fall short or make a situation worse without realizing it and I think this book can be an effective to learn fast how to deal with crises that happen in people's lives.

Helping Those Who Hurt, written by pastoral counselor Barbara Roberts, is a very helpful guide to quality and Biblical care giving. It is a comprehensive guide for caring in a variety of settings from hospital visits to domestic violence. Roberts provides significant practical tips to pastoral caregivers in nine different areas of care giving as well as ways to identify and understand dynamics in each of those nine areas: illness and hospital visitation, crisis, aging, death, grief, trouble marriage and divorce, addiction, domestic violence, and rape.Within each topic is a variety of lists describing issues to be aware of and ways of providing care appropriate to the situation. For example, in the chapter on domestic violence, Roberts offers a very helpful checklist to help pastoral caregivers determine if a couple is engaged in verbal abuse or lacks helpful conflict management skills. Such lists are helpful to pastoral caregivers as they make initial contacts and assessments of the situation and issues involved with a particular person or persons.Of note, is a very helpful and significant concluding chapter on forgiveness as it relates to care giving and spiritual growth. This volume would be a welcome addition to a pastor's library and for both informal and formal care giving training.

I say why - as all the diagrams - including front cover are not visible - there is merely a static icon.It is a pity that Amazon do not check the formatting before having these books available as ebooks for the Kindle Cloud Reader.I have to be honest - of all books I have on Cloud Reader this is what I call the exception - at times I had other book not showing the front cover - but I can live with that - as I am interested in the contents!!I have to point out that I am currently using Chrome Browser whilst on Safari browser the images are all visible.If I use the Kindle downloaded reader the images are visible also, so apart from these drawbacks the book is an excellent introduction to 802.11 Wireless Lan.

Very happy with the content and coverage this book provides for 802.11. Provides details for things glossed over by other texts.

The wireless 802.11 book I recently purchased helped me out with my studies and future work. It is a great resource for wireless.

The author does not waist words when explaining the various 802.11 features. Extremely dry and boring... Kudos to the person who can read this book and absorb the information. I felt like I was reading an RFC.

I recently read the title "802.11 Wireless LAN Fundamentals" by Pejman Roshan and Jonathan Leary. ISBN: 1587050773. You've heard the saying that good things come in small packages. Well, this title reinforces that statement. The book is packed with information regarding 802.11 Wireless LAN's. Don't be thrown by the title into thinking that this book only covers the basics. In fact, this book covers the basics and much, much more. The book starts off with fundamental concepts of Ethernet Technologies. Not enough to be a great Ethernet reference, but enough to refresh your memory or to get the flavor of Ethernet once again. The book then explains the essential concepts of Wireless LAN's. After some needed high level concepts are covered the book dives into the bits and bytes of Wireless networking, leaving nothing for the imagination. The physical layer details are covered extremely well in this book. There are great depictions that show the different modulation types, frame formats and field definitions of 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g. An extremely important topic on Wireless security is cover better in this book than any other source that I've found. A chapter has been dedicated to the topic. The author's first breaks down the weaknesses in wireless networks then explain how to secure the Wireless network. This chapter is loaded with supporting diagrams and figures. The other challenging topic of Roaming is covered in this book. The chapter goes into the protocol codes that allow mobility to be successful and the author's show a few ways in which mobility can be accomplished from a technical perspective. QoS for 802.11, or 802.11e, is a great section pertaining to QoS in a shared media wireless environment. The chapter is a bit complex and allows some of the more advanced networking professionals to bite off as much as they can chew. The book covers all the radio essentials that one would need to firmly grasp this technology without delving into the complex math behind it all. The title wraps up with great examples of site survey and design considerations. The authors give sound advise on how to approach the deployment of a wireless network that will scale to meet the needs of future Wireless network growth. With the help of the support glossary in the back, I'm much more versed on the smorgasbord of new acronyms and the technology itself, that Wireless LAN's have introduced to Networking community. The glossary makes for a great quick reference. What book would be complete without a good index. This book has a pretty good index that has most any wireless related acronym at your finger tips. Great for a quick find. There are several figures, diagrams and tables in this book. Much more than what I've seen in most other books. The supporting figures, diagrams and tables help a great deal with sorting out the terms and concepts of this simple yet complex technology. The information in the book is mainly standards based and not much, if any, Cisco centric information. Which make this title valuable for anyone seeking to understand Wireless LAN's. This book is best suited for any network professional at any level. There is something for everyone in this title. Sales Engineers will find this book invaluable as they are faced with the many tough questions and challenges from the inquisitive customer. Data Network Salesmen will benefit from this title by understanding what value Wireless networks can bring to a company and how to fit the needs of a company into a viable solution for customers.

But it surprised me. In only about 250 pages, it succeeds in covering how wireless data networking - aka 802.11, or WiFi - actually works.There is even a professional level of detail. When it comes down to it, what makes wireless different is the use of a radio instead of a physical wire. That means, for those familiar with the OSI Model, the differences are all in the bottom two layers, the Physical and the Data Link layers. As an effect of using a radio, of course, anyone with an appropriate antenna can listen in, and maybe join the conversation if they wish, which makes security both important and a little trickier to implement.Now you know the focus of this book. Roaming causes a problem unique to a wireless network: adapting connectivity during a session. If all wireless nodes belong to the same IP network, roaming can be handled entirely at layer two, but you will find times when you need to separate wireless LAN segments into separate routing domains; mobility at layer three is a little more challenging, but can be done. Facilitating both roaming and the many types of communications on a converged network, how to handle Quality of Service (QoS) is covered, too.Finally, designing and actually deploying a wireless network requires you to understand how the radio waves work, at least well enough to place the Access Points (APs) to provide the coverage you need with sufficient bandwidth for the users you will support. Conducting a good site survey matters, and so does planning for growth - both of which are addressed. In addition, the design section has some material to make you think about the impact of your wireless network on its surroundings. It was not premeditated, at least according to him, nor did he have any idea where he was going or what the plan was when he was girded up for war with the tribe that had become his family.But never has a man been more empathic or compassionate, either - staying with a loved one who was dying from dysentery until they both stank, and no one else would come close.The book reads like a poem, it is a beautiful, eye-opening, heart rending read. I only bought this to see why it had so many 5 star reviews. The blurb offers nothing about the story, so I entered with no information about this "world". There are no explanations as to what is going on in this place. I have no idea if they're humans or some weird species of humanoids that freaking knot up inside a woman when they're having sex like a dog. If you read the sample, it's a brutal rape, and that's basically what continues throughout the story. The story itself doesn't exist. There's no plot whatsoever, just disgusting rape. You might have some hope the "hero" I don't even know what he would be, is getting feelings for her, but since there's no plot, no ending—it just stops. I have no idea what could even happen. I'm all for darkness and alphas, but this is just gross. IF there was a story there, any type of closure, I would say it has potential, but I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out if they're werewolves or something. And reverse harem is a joke. This is just gang-rape and sharing a wh*re amongst awful men. If that's your thing, and you don't mind buying two books to see if there's an actual story, not just constant weird sex, buy it. If you're an actual woman who doesn't enjoy reading someone getting repeatedly assaulted, then pass.

This book seems to have reviews all over the place, but it seems the readers who rate the book lower are more offended by the story rather than by the story itself. If you don't like the subject matter, you should probably keep looking for one that you will enjoy more.I thought the author did a good job with this story and I really liked all of the characters. I thought the story typical of the genre. If you haven't read a book that features the shifter pack lifestyle, there is a hierarchy within where alphas, betas and omegas know their place. (Familiarize yourself with the Latin terms if you don't know them already. It will help you understand the dynamic.)This is a fun reverse harem shifter that will get you purring. I received an advance reader copy of this book through Hidden Gems in exchange for my honest review.

I just couldn't put the book down until I read the last words. Jax or little mouse is changing Caspian and he's fighting it hard. But I love Caspian and all of them want Jax so I want to know who will claim her and how will she come out at the end? I can't wait until book 2.

Yes, this book is crazy hot and will make you feel dirty reading it in all the best ways. But like her other Omega universe books, this story has a real honesty and relevance that many similar stories lack. You have to read deeper. Forced subjugation, thrown in social classes, the poor ignored...there's so much here that will remind you of the current climate, or what could easily happen soon. This reminded me so much of Handmaid's Tale, but only the way it hints at real issues. This world we live in could easily turn into a scary place with none of the entertainment value Cain gives here.

I finally found the right LSAT book for understanding and learning one very important and very difficult section: Logical Reasoning. This book is divided into 22 chapters, all dealing with a specific type of questions. It provides you the methods to identify the important indicators for choosing the correct answer that is related with the question that is being asked. It is a very dense and detailed book, and requires frequent notes, so that you can actually learn the methods, drills, hints, and tips stated in the book. I have already read 100 - 120 pages, however, in order to learn from this book, and I have gone back and started rereading for the purposes of taking notes, and learning from it. This is the intention of the book. It is not just to read, however, to jot down notes continuously, that you think is important to you, so that you can learn. I recommend that if you buy this book, you should not just read it, because if you do, then you will forget it. In order to maximize your benefits, read, jot down notes, practice the drills, and understand all ideas and questions stated in this book. This book is very time consuming, and should be if you want to be master this section, however if you read it once or twice, do not take any notes, or understand every single concept that is laid out, then this book would fail to serve its purpose for you. In summary: this book is meticulously detailed, time consuming, precisely written, and requires vigorous participation from the reader, if they want the master this section to the teeth.

Preparing for the LSAT is a journey. Crushing it on test day requires dedication and effective study techniques. No one tool will fully prepare you to do well. That said, the PowerScore system was the main tool I used in my journey toward the 99th percentile.The PowerScore system essentially consists of 6 books: 3 bibles and 3 workbooks (one of each per LSAT section). The bibles take you through PowerScore's strategies and methods of attacking each section, while the workbooks give you practice questions and sections to hone your skills. For simplicity, I am writing two reviews: 1 that encompasses the 3 bibles and 1 for the workbooks.I began using these books approximately 3 months ahead of test day. I read all 3 bibles cover to cover. The bibles do a nice job of easing you into their system for attacking various question types. You learn strategies for marking up long passages quickly and effectively, picking apart logical reasoning question stems, identifying incorrect answers, and most importantly, drawing logic game (analytical reasoning) diagrams. This last one is crucial; of all the logic games methods I encountered, I believe PowerScore has the best one. Learn their method and you'll be on your way to 0 wrong on the logic games section (which is so important since Reading Comp will always get you).Another nice feature of the bibles is that they provide several quick exercises along the way that help to reinforce the methods they're teaching you. These exercises were a nice alternative to regular LSAT questions.Although I recommend getting all three bibles, I would rank them in the following order from most to least crucial: Logic Games, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comp. Here's why:1) Logic Games: As I mentioned, I'm a big fan of their approach for drawing game diagrams. Since the logic games section is the most abstract, you'll want to give yourself ample time to learn and practice your approach. Start with this book.2) Logical Reasoning: They do a great job addressing all the different question types that can appear in the LR section. This book is really important as well. It just falls behind Logic Games because it's not as abstract.3) Reading Comp: In my opinion, practice practice practice is a much more effective method of preparing for reading comp (as opposed to spending a lot of time learning a specific method). You'll want to practice reading really quickly while still retaining key points. That being said, this bible will help you with strategies for how to mark up the text to quickly go back to those key points. However, if you're strapped for cash, your money might be better spent toward a subscription to the Economist (their articles provide good practice for the types of passages you'll encounter on the LSAT, and this will help when you run out of real LSAT passages).

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but for this one I needed to. So far, I've only read through Chapter 11 (out of a total of 22 chapters). The book starts with a great overview of the LSAT, each section, and how it's scored, as well as an in-depth section about the basics of Logical Reasoning. Before I started studying at all, I took an LSAT practice test to gauge where I was at. I got a 159. Not a horrible starting point, but definitely not where I wanted to be. I have not taken any courses as a way to study, preferring to use prep books and free online information to save money (I graduated undergrad 3 years ago and am now working full-time and paying bills on my own, so spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on prep courses is just not an option for me). I did use 7Sage, the free account, in conjunction with the Logical Reasoning Bible. Specifically, I use the LSAT Proctor and Grader, and the logical game explanations are phenomenal (and completely free!).After reading only halfway through this book (and using 7Sage primarily for Logical Game instructions) I went from the initial 159 to a 171! I can't wait to see how much my score improves after finishing the book, not to mention once I get a chance to take a look at the Reading Comprehension Bible and possibly the Logical Games Bible. Hands down the best study material for the LSAT. I self-studied with this over about 9 weeks and felt very well prepared going into the October 2015 LSAT. I feel that I bumped my previous score by around 10 points using the PS Bibles the second time around. Here are my 3 keys for efficient studying: 1.) Work through all Powerscore Bibles (LG, LR, RC), 2.) take as many prep tests as possible under times conditions (minimum of 10-15), and 3.) debrief each prep test by throughly reviewing all questions. LSATHacks.com has explanations to all of the prep test questions you miss. Follow this and you'll be on your way to a higher score!
