I really wanted to like this book-I had purchased it for my nephew's 1st birthday. The art and colors were great but the take away from the "story" seems to be brattiness not feminism. There are lines about how "feminist baby...throws her toys because she wants to". As a feminist, I feel there is no real connection to feminism within this book.

I have three daughters under the age of 8 and all three of them love it! We actually bought it for my baby niece, but my own kids have enjoyed it a lot! Fun book, great illustrations!

Would be better if feminist baby was not only female.

I was so excited for this book after reading a write-up and seeing some promotional panels that I thought were examples of what was in this book. (Example: Baby at birth and parents say "She's beautiful" and feminist baby responds "I'm smart and capable too!" I ordered immediately! I was disappointed to find the actual book depicts baby with no pants, throwing up, and throwing toys. I love the initial messages where feminist baby can do what she likes (dance!) and like what she likes (pink AND blue!) but the follow-up frames really miss an opportunity to help feminist baby grow to be a strong, open-minded individual who recognizes all the paths available to her. I don't understand what throwing toys has to do with a positive feminist message.

This book is part of the Circle series and needs it's companions in order to make sense. I have enjoyed the series and the imagery that it contains and find that it has stimulated discussion with my teenaged son who has also been reading these books. That's a win! Win! for me.

You absolutely must start with the first book in the series, "Black" to understand what is going on. When I started reading the series I thought it was kind of dumb but as I continued and understood the symbolism and metaphors, I couldn't put it down. It doesn't have the depth of the "Circle of Life" series ( non Christian) but it is entertaining.

This story was just weird enough to be fascinating. I couldn't put this down and wound up reading all three books in the same week. It doesn't matter where you start, the story still works in any order. This was reminiscent of a grown up Chronicles of Narnia. A little darker and more human perhaps, which was an accomplishment since the story switches between alternate realities. The characters will draw you in and you will feel like you know them before you are done. Black and white, the villains are bad, and sometimes, so are the heroes. Classic good which is imperfect vs. evil which is really evil!

This guy is truly amazing. He's written straight novels, romance thrillers, psychological suspense, and now a fantasy thriller. He stretches and stretches, yet never becomes distorted, uneven, or sloppy. I suspect that a generation from now, Dekker's writings will be essential reading for those who wish to study spiritually motivated literature.Beyond the obvious parallels between Dekker's Great Romance religion of the fantasy world, and Christianity in "our world," I caught some subtlities that could prove provocative. Could the character William, with his strong hatred of Scabs (sinners) represent certain branches of Christianity? Likewise, does the Scab priest who conflates Scab religion with a compromised Great Romance spirituality represent compromised Christianity? If so, with what? Some hot discussion could result from some of the discreet issues in this series.Bottom-line: This is true literature. It's fun, fast, deep, layered, and well worth reading and discussing. This is what Amazon has in mind when it allows us to offer 5-star ratings.

Where to begin... I could not put this down or the other two in the trilogy. The suspense between the two worlds made it very hard to stop reading. I almost didn't want to finish this book, because then I would have to admit that the story was over. I highly recommend this author and this series. The world he creates is unique with awesome underlying good versus evil themes.

When it comes to "Christian Fiction," I have always hesitated (outside of Frank Peretti). This series came recommended by my Mom. So, trusting her, I picked it up and when I began nearly put it down in the first couple chapters. Something kept me going - and then I was had.Dekker writes a dual reality story and powerfully engages the heart in the story of love, sin, grace, betrayal, temptation, and hope. This story is wrapped in thriller format - and tells of the surrender and sacrifice of Christ. Dekker had me bitting my nales, shedding a tear, yelling at characters, and longing for more grace in my life.If you are longing for a tale of the power, the beauty, and the danger of life connected with the Divine - this is the series for you!1. Black2. Red3. WhiteBe sure to get them in that order!And look, they are only a couple bucks on Amazon - worth it!Go on the journey - get wrapped up in the thriller.

I enjoyed the fantasy story depicting God and Jesus as the underlying story in the characters and good verses evil.

I usually love Rough Guides, but the format of this book makes it impossible to read, to browse, to dream over. The cover only opens a few inches, so it's difficult to read the print close to the binding. I tried to press the seam back, but that had no effect whatsoever. I even tried to tear the book into quarters, so I could focus just on the places I know I want to travel to, but the whole thing seems to have been stuck together with cement. Moreover, the type in the sidebar boxes is pale gray, so hard to read. In despair I tossed the whole thing in the trash and ordered the Lonely Planet version.

Everything you need to know. It's a hefty book, so we're debating whether we'll take it with, but it's an invaluable planning resource. Rough Guides definitely outshine Lonely Planet in terms of being well researched and impartial.
