Safe to bring to Armenia. If you're going that way, avoid any book that says "Armenia" and "Azerbaijan" on the same cover (cough cough lonely planet) as that is a regional faux pas.That said, I didn't find this book too much more enlightening than Yelp. If you go there, bring this book, but wander around yerevan without it and enjoy some of the new shops if you can.
If you are driving, deeply interested in Armenian history and everything there is to know about an attraction, then this is the guide for you.If you are looking for a guidebook that ranks sites by interest , highlights those worth seeing without discussion of many, many minor sites, skip his. Ditto anyone interested in the more contemporary aspects of, say, Yerevan r the best cafes or restaurants.This book is very complete but very, very dry. The best use for it is as a reference to look up a site you've found elsewhere. As such, it is perfect to have in Kindle form, because you can dip into it when traveling.My recommendation for less intent tourists, and those without a car, is Armenia and Karbakh, The Stone Garden Travel Guide.
Great choice for the intellectually curious reader. By no means overly dry, rather I have found it detailed and thorough., written with thoughtfulness and heart. Thank you Deirdre for producing this excellent guide.
The book meets the obligation of a travel guide and provides a lot of practical details for the traveller, plus some background information on history, culture, etc. If you have an interest in architecture and history of churches and monasteries, this is certainly the best guide for you.
Great comprehensive guide
Almost good.
About 99 percent of the information in the most recent edition of this guide is completely worthless. I threw it out after my first week in Armenia.
N/K is part of Azerbaijan! i don't think its good idea for the publisher to ignore that fact!
