I bought this as a birthday present for my dad who is a Catholic Bishop (long story). He said he loves it! He also said that at first he thought it was just satirical but came to find it was also very informative. So glad he loves it! Seemed perfect for him and it was!
If I don't become a Saint I at least can drink with them ! This book makes me glad to be Catholic and wannabe saint. Every bartender must have this book . Cliff Claven must be the authors brother in law ! I have a new appreciation for saints and discovered faith in action by real people doing some real good living . The book would make a great gift for anyone who appreciates the joyfulness of saints and the celebration of life with a unique collection of libations, Pick your favorite saint and a perfect drink makes a perfect excuse for a toast.I think I will have a Big Bad Wolf to toast Saint Francis .I'm one sinner who enjoyed discovering real saints and will remember them fondly with drink in hand

Absolutely fantastic. As a Catholic, I was a bit apprehensive of any implied sacrilege in purchasing this book. It is a fine quality book that reads more like a reference book with great reverence and historical insight to each feast day of celebration in the liturgical calendar.
This is a fascinating read thought I bought on a whim. The new house has a wet bar and this is the perfect item to have sitting next to the sink for a quick read. The material is organized by liturgical calendar (the 1962 - which is a fantastic touch) which I didn't know when I purchased. It's not meant to be read straight through but instead reads a lot like Lives of the Saints, but with drinking! I love it!
"Drinking with the Saints" is a treasure of a book. It is filled with highly readable, often funny, stories of our saints. The recipes are almost too inviting!!. The book, itself, is a thing of beauty. Wonderful illustrations. Organized by day and month. Striking layout. Even the book's paper is high quality. Don't buy one, because you'll want to give this book away. Perfect for college graduation, for birthdays and anniversaries. And what better gift for Father's Day to help dad out of his Scotch and water rut.
Love the information regarding each saint. The cover and quality of the book is great. The added bonus is the various drink recommendations per Saint. My original purchase impulse was for the cover and title of the book. I now find the information for each saint fantastic. Will buy additional copies for gifts.
This book is delightful - a fun and inspiring look at the lives of the saints and how we can celebrate them. DWTS makes a lovely and useful coffee table book too. We keep ours in our kitchen sitting area. It's handy there and fun to pick up and flip through any time. It's also a great conversation starter. This book and Foley's take on drinking like a saint have also inspired us to have positive conversations with our teenage children about drinking. Foley presents a much healthier, holier mindset than that of many of their teetotaler peers.
Drinking moderately, healthfully with these saintly tips is good for soul & body. God wants us to enjoy life: work smart/hard to fight/vanquish evil; do good with our lives to try to leave the world better than when we entered it. Excellent book.
